Motorcycle Leather

There are unique types of men and women of all backgrounds and professions with one thing in common. They are a breed of people that love the wind whipping over them at highway speeds. These adventurers enjoy nothing more than the free feeling of being out on the open road. You can find a biker wearing motorcycle leather riding their Harley Davidson to destination anywhere their bike takes them.

History of Harley Davidson

Since the early 1900’s, Harley Davidson has been putting the wind beneath the wings of riders far and near. Milwaukee was where it all began with Arthur Davidson and William Harley. This team was destined to do great things including changing transportation history forever after they strapped their first motor onto a bicycle frame. They succeeded through the years through the competition, arrival of the first automobile and the great depression. Biker styles complimented with motorcycle leather helped protect the rider and sometimes made a statement about whom they were.

Protect Yourself Biker Leather Motorcycle Jackets

The simple beginnings of this biker style of a one-cylinder motorcycle were not only the beginning of a new era for motorcycles but for leather motorcycle jackets. As much as motorcycles give you the freedom of the open road, motorcycle leather gives you more protection from the elements of the weather, debris and road rash in case you find yourself sliding down pavement. Riding without biker leather is not an option for passionate riders. Biker gloves often went hand-in-hand with the first men’s motorcycle jackets for better grip and protection. In addition to that, many groups would use motorcycle leather to express their membership in a particular group.

History of Men’s Motorcycle Jackets

The motorcycle jackets were an obvious necessity after production of motorcycles as well as leather saddlebags and other accessories. Initially, there was a trench coat style to the riding jackets. From there multiple companies realized there was a booming market for men’s motorcycle jackets.

Motorcycle leather began with a short aviator style jacket made from goatskins that hugged them at the waist. This waist was helpful in keeping the cool air off you on a cool ride. From a Detroit manufacturer came the ‘Ranger’ motorcycle leather jacket. Even in this early day, they did not forget the women riders who had a ‘Rangerette’ motorcycle leather jacket available to them.

Harley began to tap into the leather clothing and accessories in the 40’s with the ‘Cycle Champ’ men’s motorcycle jackets. They made a women’s motorcycle leather jacket called the ‘Cycle Queen’ that was popular. After these Harley produced the ‘Pistol Pocket’ design that included a back pocket, you could reach through a zipper in the left lapel. Even after this, Marlon Brando made the double-breasted biker leather motorcycle jackets design popular when he war the One Star in his movie “The Wild Ones”.

Bikers to rockers and many others wanted the “bad boy” look of the biker styles of generations. Even today, motorcycle leather is popular with many biker men and women that want to not only protect themselves but look great too.
